My name is Ed Israel. My
coaching style as a professional personal coach
comes from many years of growing a small family business
in a very tough industry into a much larger corporation,
and then downsizing it and eventually closing it after
9/11. At my company, for over 27 years, I moved from
learning how to service electronic equipment to
negotiating international agreements with major
corporations. And coaching dozens of employees on
their lives, careers, and relationships.
As I look back on what gave
me the most pleasure in the business, it was helping and
watching the wonderful people grow in their value to the
company and themselves. Along the way, I helped team
members through drinking problems and relationship
problems at home and at work, and helped them transition
from one role in the company to another. I even
helped them make decisions that eventually compelled
them to take jobs at other companies. To this day,
I remain friends with many of them.
I learned that one should
never try too hard to keep someone who wants to leave.
I learned it is always better to tell the truth
(actually, I learned that when I was a young boy, so
maybe this was just confirmed again and again). I
had a way
of making people feel comfortable about coming in to see
me with issues they had with their co-workers and
managers.
Growth Through Challenges
I acquired other companies,
sold off divisions, was personally guaranteed on bank
loans, and took risks with new products and services.
My biggest mistake was taking my eye off of the ball.
I let someone else run my company and did not realize
until too late that it was going in the wrong direction.
The only person I did not
help was me. Towards the end of my company’s life,
I fought depression, suffered through a deteriorating
relationship with my wife, stopped exercising (I am a
rock climber, avid outdoorsman, usually put in many
hours a week in the gym) and lost so many hours of
sleep; it took a long time to catch up.
If there was one word that
comes to mind that truly deceived me for many years, the
word was “trapped”. I felt trapped in my job and
that spilled over to my entire life.
What Success Has Meant in My Life
I will now leave the sad
story behind. Today, I am happy. I can look in the
mirror and not kid myself about that. That is
success: to be able to look at yourself in the
mirror and say “I am happy” and not flinch or look away
or sense you’re kidding yourself. I have
experienced several new careers, I am still happily
married to my college sweetheart, and I have helped
others through their own difficult times. To quote
one business owner I visited with, “The conversation you
had with me turned me completely around. My family
life is better and my business is back on track.”
Trapped . . . the hell with
"trapped". It was a specter, a shadow, something
that hung over me and yet did not really exist.
You are never trapped. The problem is when you do
not see an answer, you think you are trapped.
Strength comes from reaching out for help. This is
really true. Figure it out on your own…good luck.
A fresh perspective comes from reaching out. I did
and it turned my life around.
My skills come from
experiencing more then a lifetime worth of stress, joy,
and success. I really enjoy helping others (after my
company shut down, before I became a coach, I really
missed doing so). I believe I have
a lot to offer those that need to and should reach
out for anything from good advice to a new beginning.

want out of your life.
Professional Background
Ed began his career in 1979
in the family business, CTR, Inc., an IT services and
software development company, and became President in
1981 and CEO in 1994. During his tenure at the helm of

bringing in software development staff, picking a
hardware platform to deliver the solution, and selecting
the appropriate sales tools to support national growth.
He next became V.P. of Sales & Business Development for
Trek Technologies, LLC, where he was responsible for
building markets around a new multi-purpose tool called
TrekPod and establishing distributor and direct retailer
