Feroce's
unique offer of coaching by email and instant
messenger is available to two types of clients:
(1) those who would otherwise qualify for our
sliding scale of rates
and would like to further cut our costs and therefore to
increase the chances we can accept their
proposed price or (2) those living in locations not
conducive to telephone coaching, whether for reasons of
cost, access, or incompatible time zones.
Setting a Price.
Setting pricing for email and IM coaching
requires the client and coach to carefully consider his or her
goals. If you intend not to very actively participate
in the creation and execution of your goals -- that is, to
report on and discuss them with some frequency -- then at
certain price points you could be overpaying for IM and
email coaching, because what you get out of it is primarily action --
brainstorming, advice, and action items to complete before the next call -- and
only secondarily insight. Without follow-up and accountability for the
action items decided on, you would also
be less effective in reaching your goals.
On the other
hand, without some boundaries in place, a coach could
get in the position of responding to lengthy emails
every day, or being solicited to engage in instant messengering quite frequently.
So we suggest that you consider how often you
want to email, or IM, or some combination. Ideally, you
would be able to use IM as your main means of coaching,
as opposed to merely emailing. IM allows the
give-and-take dialectic of real-time discussions -- and often, therefore, more
moments of insight. We typically have IM sessions once a week
for 45-60 minutes with clients, supplemented by shorter IMs and
emails throughout the week.
In cases where a client proposes that we spend the same amount of
time on IM coaching that we would on
telephone coaching, our
pricing for telephonic coaching would still be the benchmark from which to
propose a lower fee.
For example, let's say that we did IM
life coaching for one 45-minute
session a week, 3 weeks a month, as well as email
follow-ups and shorter IMs during the week. The
standard price for the same amount of time spent on
phone coaching is $295, but we're able to give larger
price breaks for sliding scale clients who want IM and email coaching than those
who get their coaching by telephone. We can also give price breaks to
long-distance clients who use free
Internet Telephony services.
Be sure to check out our sliding scale of rates, and then contact us with your
questions, ideas, or proposals for pricing. We'll get back to you very quickly.
