A family coach can
help you reduce stress at home. Here are some
tried and true ideas that have worked for parents who
have had family coaching with me. These tips are
especially designed for school-age children and moms and
dads who are overwhelmed and stressed out at home.
Family Coaching Tip #1
Instead of preparing breakfast every morning…prepare it
the night before. Pour cereal in bowl, cover.
Pour milk in small covered cups and refrigerate.
Set the table with napkins and spoons, juice boxes,
etc.…
Family Coaching Tip #2
Instead of fighting with your kids to shower and dress
on time in the morning, shower or bathe before bed and
dress for the next day. Yes, if they're young
enough, let them sleep in their clothes. By the
time they are old enough to care about their appearance
they will be getting ready on their own, too!
Family Coaching Tip #3
Instead of making school lunches every day…make
sandwiches for the week on Sunday. PB&J, tuna,
bologna and turkey all freeze well. Have the kids
make labels, put the sandwiches in plastic sandwich bags
and freeze. Each morning, let your kids choose
what to pack. Have a bowl of fruit, and other
snack items available and ready too. Kids enjoy
assembling their own lunches and the best part is you
don’t have to do it.
Family Coaching Tip #4
Instead of rushing around in the morning packing
backpacks…empty backpacks immediately after school and
sort through papers, homework, etc.… repack backpacks
immediately after homework is finished and put backpacks
by the front door.
Family Coaching Tip #5
Instead of allowing kids to watch TV or play video games
after dinner and bath…have a reading circle…read to your
kids, have them read to you or all of you read your own
books in the same room.
Family Coaching Tip #6
Instead of letting clutter build up…use brightly colored
bins, one for each child. Set a time for the kids
to get their bin and pick up all the things that they
have not put away
(from everywhere in the house.) Send the kids to
their rooms to put their belongings where they belong.
