Relationship Advice Coaching

Relationship Advice Coaching is Coaching, Not Counseling

Some of the Same Skills Are Used by a Relationship Coach

What is relationship advice coaching?  It's not counseling, but sometimes advice, and can be whatever you want, so long as it involves starting, improving, or ethically ending a relationship between you and another person.  We live in a sea of relationships; not including our relationship with ourselves (which we handle in Personal Coaching), we have relationships with friends, family, colleagues, acquaintances, romantic partners, and our professional network.  As relationship coaches, we do coaching, not counseling, and our guiding principles in coaching on relationships are:

● Awareness -- mindfulness of yourself, your thoughts, feelings, and patterns or habits
● Authenticity -- honesty with yourself and others
● Right Motivation -- the reasons you want relationships with others are in good faith

There are a number of areas of relationships relationship coaches work on with clients, but most of them revolve around helping clients build communication skills or strategize approaches to a relationship with a particular person.  Some examples:

● You want to meet or introduce yourself to the man or woman of your dreams -- but have no idea where to start.

● You are trying to understand why your relationships, or even efforts to find and meet friends or a lover, have so far been less successful than you would like.

● You would like to meet a romantic partner through online dating and want to know:

  - which online sites are best for you and what you're looking for

  - how to write a killer profile and compelling introductory emails

  - what definitely not to say in a profile or email, how to avoid the never-ending clichés online, and what kind of photos never to post

  - how to manage your -- and their -- expectations on that first meeting, to make it less exhausting, painful, and disappointing and more likely to be enjoyable and at least produce a friend (and why friendship is easier for men to propose than for women)

● You want to find a personal or business mentor or dedicated peer confidant but aren't sure how to go about it

● You are trying to decide whether a developing personal relationship really is for you

● You'd really like to work on improving your relationship with a friend or family member

● You'd like to bring new and valued people into your life

● You'd like to figure out how to reconcile with someone, or approach someone who once meant a lot to you ? family member or friend ? and start over

● You have a poor relationship with your boss

● You want to improve relationships with your co-workers, both for the enhanced happiness and productivity of all concerned and because you know it's critical to your own career success
