Your teenager has a talent
and wants to make their dream come true, but is
disorganized or confused about how to accomplish this.
(artist, musician, writer, wants to get into medical
school etc.).
2.
Do you help to teach discipline?
I help parents learn how to
discipline and motivate their children/teens. I can motivate,
get after, and keep accountable a teen that wants to be
coached.
For example:
A mother called and wanted
her son to get teen life coaching. I gave him a
free consult in which he was not at all inclined to do
any talking. So I talked with mom and together we
decided that I would work with her and her husband.
The bottom line is: I can work with anyone if they want
to be coached.
Or: A teen got in
touch with me and wanted coaching around getting organized
and gaining better study habits. She was highly
motivated and the parents had very little involvement.
(Although, they did check me out! As they should!)
3.
Is the parent's involvement necessary? Useful?
Undesirable? Given that it probably depends, what
factors would it depend on?
Again, if the teen is
highly motivated and wants coaching, no parent
involvement is necessary. But if there are issues such
as lack of motivation, lack of respect or drug use,
parents need to be involved. This can range from how the
calls are structured to who is on the line.
4. What's the difference
between counseling and coaching?
The main difference between
parent/teen coaching and counseling is that counseling
is a hierarchical relationship with the counselor as
expert. The focus is at uncovering issues that are
causing anxiety and depression and alleviating symptoms.
Coaching is a collaborative
effort between coach and client with client as expert.
The focus is on the client’s agenda such as naming where
the client wants to be, creating the vision and making
the journey to that goal. Coaching is proactive, with
accountability and extra support in between sessions.
5.
What do you charge?
I charge within Feroce's
standard range, which you can see under success
coaching.
6.
Does it need to be in person?
No, it does not need to be
in person. In fact, more than one family member
can participate on the call. If geographically
possible, face to face is always available. I live
in Connecticut, but I have clients in California, New
Hampshire, Nebraska, Alabama, Vermont, New York,
Missouri, Michigan, and even Connecticut. Read
more about the benefits of
phone coaching and why it's the most common form of
coaching.
